I was taught painting as a small child by my grandfather who had very great natural talent, and though he preferred water colours and I use oils (never acrylic, they're too quick drying for my style) I think my style is very similar to him. The key thing about the sort of cosy old world look is to remember that shadows are never just plain black but full of colour and that they never have absolutely hard edges. it suggests a sort of haze in the atmosphere.
